Water Demineralization

Water is one of the most important components of central heating systems. Its main function is to transfer heat to the heating elements. With today’s modern systems, it is essential for the water to meet the parameters required for the smooth operation of the entire system. Water has its own physical and chemical properties which can damage central heating systems, therefore it is important to treat it. The main properties whose specific values are required by boiler and heat pump manufacturers are water hardness, pH and conductivity.

Water demineralisation is a way to treat water and remove calcium and magnesium from it, thus preventing the formation of limescale. During the demineralisation process, reduction in conductivity to less than 100 ms also occurs, reducing the amount of chloride which prevents the formation of corrosion.

An important element of water treatment is the process of self-alkalization of the pH value. This is a natural increase of the pH value to 7.8 – 8.5. This value is the threshold for aluminium components such as heat exchangers. Stabilization of pH can also be ensured by a good-quality inhibitor, such as Fernox Protector F1.
